Protect Public Space in Cincinnati!

A recent article in the Cincinnati Enquirer confirmed that the city's Park Board had approved a plan to lease Piatt Park to 3CDC without any chance for overview or comment from the broader public. Even worse, 3CDC thinks they should be given control of the park to prevent “misuse” of the public space.

Their idea of “misuse”? Local organizations serving free food to our unhoused neighbors. Does that sound like misuse to you?

Of course not, but 3CDC doesn’t care. They want to control our public space and dictate who can use it and when, just like when they tried to take over the public library downtown. We beat them once and preserved a space for all to enjoy. With your help, we’ll beat them again. Use the tools below to tell city officials to #KeepPiattPublic and protect public space!

Use the tools on this page to tell our city government that we demand public space remain public spaces, and that they Keep Piatt Public!

We the undersigned Cincinnati and Hamilton County residents and volunteers, small businesses, and community organizations are writing to express our concern with the Cincinnati Park Board's support of a 38 year lease of Cincinnati's first public park to 3CDC with no public transparency or opportunity for comment.

We are asking the city administration to pause on this lease assessment until there is opportunity for full public assessment and comment of 3CDC's proposal.

Public parks are public property, funded by the public, and deserve public input. Public usage for community gatherings in compliance with all city and state ordinances and permitting requirements is not "misuse of the park".

Keep Piatt Public!

To Cincinnati City Government,

I am writing to express my frustration and anger that on April 16th the Cincinnati Park Board approved 3CDC’s 38 year lease proposal of Cincinnati’s first public park without any time or process for public review of the proposal.

The Piatt Park lease is contingent upon city approval and a state grant whose application is due Weds April 22nd. Is 3CDC is expecting the city to review and approve their proposal to privatize our public park in less than 3 business days, all while basing it on an offensive and ignorant mischaracterization of how we as community members use our park?

I am asking city leadership to release the proposal and lease details to the public and pause the assessment until the public has sufficient time to review and provide input. 3CDC’s poor time management of this proposal submission and grant timeline is not the fault of the public.

I support the neighborhood’s mutual aid gatherings at Piatt Park and am committed to ensuring this crucial community building can continue.

Public parks are public property, funded by the public, and deserve public input. Public usage for community gatherings in compliance with all city and state ordinances and permitting requirements is not "misuse of the park".
